Task: A manufacturing company ordered the transportation of a shipment of mineral wool from Cherkasy to Kyiv. The shipment consisted of 33 pallets with a total volume of 86 m³ and a weight of approximately 8 tonnes. The cargo was collected on November 3 and delivered to the consignee the following day.
Cargo Specifications: For a curtain-sided semi-trailer, 8 tonnes is less than half its typical payload capacity of 20–22 tonnes. However, the shipment occupied almost the entire available volume: a standard curtain-sided trailer has a usable capacity of approximately 90 m³, with space for 33 Euro pallets arranged in a single layer. This is typical for lightweight insulation materials: the limiting factor is the trailer’s volume rather than its payload capacity. As a result, transportation costs depend on the shipment’s cubic volume. The palletized packs reached almost to the roof of the trailer, so even a few extra centimetres of height would have made it impossible to transport the entire shipment in a single trip.
Another key requirement was protection against moisture, as wet mineral wool loses its thermal insulation properties. Each pack on the pallets was wrapped in stretch film before transportation to Kyiv.
Loading: The truck was loaded at the shipper’s premises using a mobile loading ramp. A forklift entered the trailer through the rear doors, and the pallets were positioned tightly together, from the front wall of the trailer to the rear doors.
Result: All 33 pallets of mineral wool were loaded in Cherkasy on November 3 and delivered to Kyiv on November 4, 2026, in a single trip.
