Case Study: Export of Ukrainian Aluminum Caps and Muselets to South Africa

Task: A Ukrainian manufacturer of aluminum caps and muselets — components used for bottle sealing — approached Ukrautologistic Group with a request that is uncommon for many freight forwarders: to organize regular shipments of its products to Cape Town. The African market is not a typical destination for Ukrainian packaging manufacturers, and most local carriers simply do not have established logistics solutions for this region. Our objective was to build a reliable supply chain from the manufacturing facility to the consignee in South Africa.Transportation Scheme: The cargo was transported from Ukraine to Antwerp by a curtain-sided truck. Antwerp, being one of Europe’s largest container ports, served as the transshipment point, where the goods were reloaded into a 40′ High Cube ocean container and shipped by sea to Cape Town. Antwerp was chosen deliberately as the consolidation hub due to its stable and regular shipping services to Cape Town, offering reasonable transit times and flexibility in departure schedules.Specific Challenge: Although aluminum caps and muselets may appear to be straightforward cargo, they have particular requirements when it comes to packaging and loading. Pallets with cartons were tightly assembled, stretch-wrapped, and secured with straps, as any cargo movement during a long ocean voyage could potentially result in damage. The 40′ High Cube container was loaded with great care: the pallets were positioned tightly against the front wall of the container, while the doors were sealed with an official seal, with the seal number properly recorded. Everything was handled according to established shipping standards.Result: The cargo arrived in Cape Town in perfect condition. For the customer, this shipment confirmed that exports to African destinations can be managed systematically — without relying on one-time improvisations or involving multiple intermediaries. Ukrautologistic Group also organizes similar shipments to other African markets, including Nigeria, using comparable multimodal logistics solutions.
